SOFTBALL NEWS:
The
Code of Conduct must be printed out, signed, and returned by the
second meeting. Mileage sheets (for softball) are due to Dave Wallevand
no later than one week after the last regular season game. Mileage
Sheets received after that date will not be paid.
BASEBALL NEWS:
Marysville HS will be hosting a 3-way scrimmage on Saturday,
February 20, 2010. Game times are 10 AM, 12:30 PM, and 3:00 PM. A
delicious lunch will be provided to umpires.
If you would like to get an opportunity to have some preseason work,
please email Jay Brownfield.
Jay will forward your name to Bill Shearer. Jay will also try to have
representatives from our Association either in attendance or working at
the scrimmage in order to evaluate you.
Former minor league umpire and current Pac 10/WAC/GBL umpire
Billy Haze, has started a new company called D1 Sports Apparel. Billy has
offered to come to our meeting on February 22 and bring numerous items
with him from his inventory if there is enough interest. Click

Second, There is a new umpire camp that will be taking place the first
week in November of 2010. The camp is taking place at Raley Field in
Sacramento, home of the Sacramento Rivercats. It is a 5 day camp that
includes your hotel and a awards banquet with a guest speaker on
Saturday evening. There is going to be upwards of 15 instructors from
all levels of baseball. Black and Blue Umpire Camp is
going to be a 2-Man camp this year and will expand to two camps in 2011.
One camp being 2-man and the other camp being a 3-man camp. There will
also be numerous college assignors from all over California attending
and evaluating umpires for placement into there leagues. There is no
pressure to attend this camp but this will be the first time California
has had a camp of this magnitude in Northern California. Click

Being A Good Boss Is Like Being A Good Umpire
Jay Brownfield provided the above mentioned USA Today article about MLB
Umpire, Randy Marsh, which describes how the qualities of a good umpire
are also the qualities of a good boss.
